Measuring the compression (pressure) in the engine's combustion chamber is the best way to diagnose the condition of the engine. Low combustion chamber pressure can indicate poor sealing of valves, compression rings or gaskets. If used during a regular service it can give advanced warning of potential problems so action can be taken before component failure.
